On the final day of the 2019 Aurora Farmers Market, Wells College freshman Nash won our second and last drawing of the year, and was THRILLED with her new hammock. Thanks to the artistry and generosity of a thankful Cleofa of San Pedro, El Salvador, who gifted us with these two beautiful hammocks, and all the donors who bought raffle tickets, we made $207 to help the Sister Community Project. We support HS and university students, farmers, friends, and entrepeneurs in El Salvador. Thank you too for supporting us at the market this year!

2016 Delegation Trip - Summary

November/December 2015 Sales a Huge Success!
We are out of hammocks! Our purse inventory is way down! Larry is placing an emergency order for coffee and chocolate! What wonderful problems to have. Through the best team effort ever, we took part in three craft fairs this season -- two on the same weekend! We joined the Southern Cayuga Craft Fair in early November, thanks to our friends at Scipioville Presbyterian. In early December we took our usual spot at Christmas in Aurora, and with Sally Storman's help we were first-timers at the gigantic two-day Cayuga Community College Holiday Craft Fair. Our gross sales just for these two days was over $900! (Time to place some new hamaca y bolso orders!) But the best part was sharing with people the talents and news of our friends in San Pedro and at FUNDAHMER. Of course, some were "just shoppers", but others were truly interested in the project and the people. Sales of handmade purses and hammocks as well as fair trade food items have been steadily increasing as we broaden our sales base and our project. Our hope is that we are able to make a greater and greater difference with our friends in El Salvador.

2015 Trip to San Pedro
Larry and Cathy just returned from a wonderful trip to El Salvador for the 2015 FUNDAHMER International Encuentro. This visit shot to the top of my El Salvador experiences in so many ways. What a joy it was to get to know people from many different communities around El Salvador as well as from San Jose, CA and two communities in BC, Canada. We began by being welcomed with open arms (as always) in San Pedro, seeing the improved composting program overseen by Daniel, graduate of last year's Campesino School, singing and reading with the school children, seeing the progress on a beautiful new chapel, seeing a new bridge being built, and learning about the status of farming, women's hygeine projects, and artisan projects. Before attending the conference, we were treated to a visit to an amazing archeological dig that is revealing an intact pre-Columbian Mayan village at Joya de Ceren. The Encuentro itself was beautifully planned and executed as we learned and discussed such important matters as The National Reality (Rick Jones), Migration (COFAMIDE), Food Sovereignty (Mercedes Sánchez), History of the Sister Communities (Ana Luz Ortiz and Laurel Marshall), and Solidarity (Ana Luz and Laurel). Reflections, Marches, Music, and dancing also honored the life and hopes of Monsignor Oscar Romero, killed on March 24, 1980. On top of all this, we got to see the brilliant Salvadoran national bird, the torrogoz, close up!! And a large-cat sized rodent they called the cotusa entertained a few of us!  As soon as I figure out how to change/add pictures, I will post a few from our trip.  Or, you can visit the San Pedro Sister Community Facebook page.
